A Face Like Half a Grapefruit

Pamplemousse on the Loose

The Exchange Brewery

6% Alcohol

I parle vous a bit and occasionally the COMDB translation department lets me have a go at some of the more basic Francais. I did recognize right away the word pamplemousse, which means grapefruit in English. Upon closer examination of the artwork on the can I see a lady with a face like half a grapefruit (sounds like an insult but is in fact a very accurate description) speaking with a man with a head like a moose. She is fruitful and he is … well I won’t go there.  Art work by Caitlin Wooll.*

This brew by The Exchange isn’t the first grapefruit IPA we have sampled, a pair of illiterate librarians served one up previously. This Pamplemousse combines 5 different hops with fresh ruby red grapefruit.

A hazy golden orange pour with some pamplemousse on the loose (grapefruit sediment I suspect). An aroma of grapefruit with a touch of grapefruit and a background of … grapefruit with a hop or two in there somewhere. No half a grapefruit here, they must have put the whole thing in. And the taste? Yep, citrus tropical grapefruit juice with a touch of funky malt, very tasty, very mild bitters at the finish, it is all well balanced and it works. As I progressed and it warmed a bit the grapefruit bitters in the finish became more pronounced, as did the tropical fruit body. This is exactly what you would expect a grapefruit IPA to be.
