Another 5’oclock somewhere but not here on the thirsty Thursday Crownsmen Show and the featured brew is a Vancouver based Steam Works hazy pale. On the can is a rendering of Vancouver Bay, with a couple of Orcas cavorting like peas in a pod, having a whale of a time.* On a previous show we had pondered some deep and thought provoking (pondering provoking?) Cardi B philosophies while enjoying a SW Kölsch, umlaut firmly affixed, Kölsch Convention be damned. **
The term hazy is an apt descriptor of this muted orange particles in suspension suds. The aroma is lots of tropical fruit with some hops in the background. Jerrod said he finished it and never even noticed what it tasted like. Rory said bitter three times, we assumed he was referring to the beer. My own take was that it was stone fruit plus (plus what I wasn’t sure) and malt bitters. A full mouthfeel. For me it was a fairly typical PA. Not the whale of a pale ale that the artwork would suggest.

False Creek Nov 24, 2024 Pod Spotting
An OK, run of the still pale. It was fully hazed, but I was unamazed.
*Editor’s Comment: Although called Killer Whales, Orcas are not whales but are the largest member of the dolphin family. Orcas have been spotted in Vancouver Harbour on numerous occasions, as well as False Creek and Coal Harbour. Although very rare, a pod of orcas was spotted in False Creek in 2024.
