A blustery day at the cottage, too windy to fish, and with the sideways rain the boathouse gazebo was a no go. After trying unsuccessfully to keep the grandkids from fighting with a day of card, dice and bored * games I was down to my last nerve and it was stretched as thin as a politician’s alibi. Amber to the rescue.
It seems to me like an elephant’s age since I had last quaffed a caramel craft ** and I found I was missin’ me an Amber. The ever-accommodating and always well stocked cottage beer fridge had a Ladder Run Lager from Blue Mountain Brewing front and center of the center shelf, and not coincidentally center of my attention. I recall a just right light from BM, and Ladder Run *** certainly sounds like a rerun, but not by this brewer. Is this deja brew all over again or just a name that remains the same?
A tan clear amber pour, liquid not solid, so no insects or fossils embedded. A light toffee aroma, it smells good enough to drink. First quaff reveals a caramel smooth body, a light watery mouthfeel, with a mild crisp dry finish. As a certified, Bonafide, and qualified **** amber lover I found this one tasty and easy drinking, and therefore big swigable. A nicely balanced amber lager with the caramel malt body and the dry crisp finish, not as crisp as a Pilsner and not as dry as I was when I poured it. A blustery day brew, brewed and well balanced by Blue Mountain, quaffed and appreciated by me. I love me an Amber and when it comes to Ladder Run, what’s not to love.

*Reviewer’s Comment: No typo.
**Editor’s Comment: Elephants live longer in the wild than in captivity. The longest recorded elephant lifespan in the wild was 89 years. As for your last amber sampling, it was a barely honourable mention Sea Dog on the Crownsmen Show 34 days ago.

A 2022 deja brew review
***Editor’s Comment: Ladder Run was previously a Thornbury beer, which was reviewed on COMDB over three years ago. In 2015 Thornbury Brewery purchased King Brewing which had been in operation for 15 years previously. In 2016 Colio Estate Wines purchased Provincial Beverages of Canada which included the Thornbury Cider and Brewery brands. Blue Mountain Brewing Co. has become the beer brand of Colio Estates and Thornbury, based in the Collingwood area of Canada. Not to be confused with the Blue Mountain Brewery based in Afton, Virginia.
****Editor’s Comment: Certifiable, yes. Bonafide, doubtful. Qualified by volume consumed as opposed to knowledge or education.
