Apparently Antler is a fancy pants eating establishment. Sounds like you might drop a couple of bucks there. The bill might be dear, but worth a try if you’re game. They tell us it’s Michelin recognized! I’ve never been to a Michelin restaurant but back in the day I did have a burger once at a place that sold tires, it was a good year all round.*
Forget about the deer, or the year, we’re here for the beer. And this brew is a Something in the Water collaboration with Antler that has us even curiouser than usual. How so? Well, they say this Czech dark may be their best brew ever! That is some lofty self admiration from a top-notch brewer, which is about to be either confirmed or countered by an impartial third party who is partial to dark brews. That would be me in case you’re wondering. Time to pour and score.
A dark pour, not black out black but not far off. With a slim tan topper of a head. A stoutly aroma of roasted malt cocoa. Inviting, enticing, and exciting, causing me to be both repetitive and redundant with some almost approaching alliterative adjectives.
The first taste is a strong malt cocoa coffee combo with a dark fruit blackberry sweet with a very mild hop fizz finish. A dark lager lover’s dark. A classic dark with something extra. It smooths out a bit but is still very much a flavour forward brew. Flavourful with some extra flavour to savour. The word rich comes to mind. SITW brews are never lacking in flavour and this dark is bringing it in spades.
Another great SITW brew, a most enjoyable (and flavourful) journey to the dark side.
