Since I’ve retired I’ve taken great pains to avoid work of any type. But do you know what kind of work I hate the most? That’s right, hard work. And if you think picking dandelions off your front lawn constitutes hard work (I know I do), then can you imagine hookin’ up the old Ox to a plow and clearing 33 acres before sunset! Good lord, I’m getting winded just typing it. But our brewer du jour feels that hard work and just rewards is what brewing is all about and so they named themselves 33 Acres. *
Now it may seem unfair but I remember what my old buddy JT once said “life is fair, said no one, ever”. I know, he speaks like Yoda sometimes, the Yoda of beer perhaps? Perhaps. What’s so unfair that you would quote the Yoda of beer you’re wondering, and rightfully so. Well, what seems so unfair is that 33 Acres has slaved, sweated, sacrificed and in general toiled quite a bit to build a brewery and clear those 33 acres (figuratively speaking of course). And I’ve done nothing, except walk over to the bar, and I’m the one enjoying their “just rewards”. And it gets worse! Not only am I enjoying the fruits of their labour, but it’s an open bar, so I’m not even paying for it! And to top it all off, I don’t feel a shred or remorse, guilt, shame or regret at being repetitively redundant, or while taking full advantage of the free beer situation. It seems like this review is even more off the rails than the wreck of the old 97. ** Time to pour and score.
Once again, I’m doing even less work than usual because the bartender did the pouring, but at least I picked the beer, didn’t I? Well, actually the bartender recommended this one, he said “it has a bit more life to it than the rest of the beers we have here”. But rest assured, I did drink it. And I did enjoy it. A hazy muted golden pour with minimal head. A mild juice pine bitter aroma going on. It has a mild fruit body with a flat dry slightly crisp finish, a West Coaster for sure. For such a hard working, company this is a very easy drinking pale. Consistent and balanced start to finish, just a very nice mild juicer of a pale. Looks like all their hard work paid off.
