It looks hot over there. Would you gentlemen be interested in an ice cold Tecate?
The Department of Corrections sentenced me to some hard labour in the back 10 (I can’t afford a back 40 like Farmer Steve has) and when I was done I was thirstier than a Sonoran desert ditch digger. I reached for the first brew from the lager section of the beer fridge and found in my hand the Mexican Tecate of fame and fable. Tecate, Baja California Mexico, on the Mexican US border, is a thriving community bathed by the West Coast sunshine except where the 30-foot-tall border wall throws shade. *
Tecate beer, brewed in the city of Tecate, right? Actually, these days it’s brewed in Monterrey, but in the recent past it must have been brewed in Tecate, right? Actually during the pandemic it was brewed in Amsterdam. ** But it was originally brewed in Tecate when it was first came out in 1944, right? Right.
A clear golden headless pour, unencumbered by any froth. It has an inviting light lager malt sweet aroma. The taste is a mild malt that is surprisingly sweet, not cloyingly so but more so than most lagers. My third degree thirst required a big swig or two and Tecate was up to the task. Easy drinking and thirst quenching, a good solid lager, fridge stocking big brewer lager. Tailgate party Tecate.
