Joan's Dark Secret

C'est What and Durham Brewing Co.

4.3% Alcohol

A Blast from the Past

When Joan Jett was questioned about her sexuality she said “If you want to know who I am, listen to my music”. I don’t think Joan Jett has any secrets. I’ll tell you something else that’s no secret, C’est What Durham are no nonsense nitro shaken not stirred beer brewers and this is another one of their shake pop and pour hard, nitro cascading crafts.

The Joan on the can is uttering the words “bibere hoc” which at first I thought was a Justin Bieber hockey reference but it appears it is a foreign language.

Drink This!

The COMDB translation department’s response was short and not sweet, “we don’t do Latin”. Ah, Latin! Eh tu, Brutus.  I know our Egghead Editor can’t resist Latin.* He will probably get to it in between his advanced aging narcoleptic naps.

This brown is the new black, a super dark not so secret pour, with another beauty creamy fulsome froth of a nitro head. Some malt roast on the nose. The taste is a full malt nut flavour with a light creamy body, very nice. The combination is tasty and well balanced. A big swig brown that’s easy going down. A toasty tasty light drinking dark. Another nitro success story, whatever language it’s in.*

The C’est What secret is out. Nitro, it’s not just for stouts anymore.

*Editor’s Comment: Latin is an important language and is the key to the Romance languages, those being Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese and provides the structure for a wide variety of languages including German, Russian and Chinese dialects. It is estimated that over half of the words in the English language have been adapted from Latin origins. Interestingly enough, the word “narcoleptic” is a Latinized form of words having their origins in the Greek language which is approximately 2,000 years older than Latin. Many Latin words had their origins in Greek. The etymology of word “nitro” also has Greek origins. And I’m not sure where the “egghead” comment is coming from. By the way, “bibere hoc” is Latin for “drink this”.

*Reviewer's Comment: Fascinating. What is the origin of the word "yawn".

*Editor's Comment: The word "yawn" actually has both Latin and Greek origins.
