Cerveza Being Served

¡Hola!

Big Rig Brewery

4.7% Alcohol

Big Rig are hauling us down south of the border, two borders to be precise, for a cerveza siesta among the agaves. Saludos y buena salud” I say.* Full disclosure, I had to consult with the COMDB translation department for that one.

They tell us to pop a top and enjoy some “memories of lazy days on white sandy beaches”. Since all of my Mexican adventures have been for work my memories of the country are site visits to the mines and dry camps. Not the picture that BR is trying to paint, now is it. Nevertheless, I am imagining chillin’ and swillin’ an icy ¡Hola! in a seaside hammock swinging ever so slightly in the ocean breeze as I write this review in my present reality of the not quite white yet North and listening to Los Lobos singing “Poquito par aqui”.** A bit of a stretch is an understatement, in fact I think I just pulled an imagination muscle.

A clear light fool’s gold pour, a bright white just right head to top things off.  A maize aroma to get lost in. The taste is a mild malt with the familiar cerveza corn base and some hay field graininess. It has a fuller flavour then most of the classic cervezas. Maybe a lime squeeze would be the bee’s knees? Too late to initiate that debate.  A slightly bitter finish instead of a cerveza smooth finale.  Certainly a refreshing lager but hay grainy and corny, half the farmer’s field showing up in this one. Not quite smooth and not quite sweet. Refreshing and full flavoured, limeless but I wouldn’t call it timeless.

*COMDB Translation Department Comment: ”Saludos y buena salud” Greetings and good health. “Poquito par aqui” A little bit for here.

**Editor’s Comment: From the Los Lobos 2015 album “Gates of Gold”.
