Sandbanks 70’s soiree. Identity of the individual has been redacted to save them from the embarrassment of drinking Canadian.
Prince Edward County. Claim to fame, the home of Prince Eddy’s Brewing and the Picton Sandbanks. Way back in the day we made an unsanctioned high school final year pilgrimage to the Sandbanks and let me assure you there was some coastal quaffing in the offing. A 24 of PE’s Coastal Drift * on that beach that day would have been apropos but only available through Doc Brown’s time machine since that sandbanks soiree happened almost 50 years before Prince Eddy’s first brewed this brew. **
Enough glory day drinking reminiscing, time to toast this coast with a post.
This Prince Eddy’s Lallemand collab brew pours semi-clear golden orange with a frothy white as sandbanks sand head. A light, watery tropical aroma with some hops but nothing overpowering or even nearing over the top. First taste is mild tropical juice, a bit fizzy, with hoppy bitters and a dry bitter finish and bitter aftertaste. Little juice, big bitters, not balanced and not trying to be.
The inevitable big swig renders more of the same, only more of it. This one isn’t really juicy, not really dank, but has those sharp aggressive bitters. The juice gets a bit juicier while the bitters get a bit less bitter. Now the bitter is back, this coastal has gone postal! I’m not usually a bitter guy, cranky maybe, cantankerous definitely, but I’m enjoying these backend biting bitters.
I was wondering what this Modern West Coast IPA was all about, but I think I’m starting to get the drift.
