Surfs up all year round at the Edmonton mall, although you’ll have to go to the pub to catch a Death Wave.
With a name like Death Wave I expected a West Coast double digit triple hanging 10% on board with the four surfers of the apocalypse. But what I got instead is a 4% land locked light and lively lager from Edmonton, Alberta, the land of cattle and oil, a city not usually acknowledged as a surf mecca.* But I think it was Shakespeare who said “No beer is either good or bad, but drinking makes it so”.**
Sea Change out of Edmonton tell us “great beer from right here” but it’s actual from there, so there. Time to do the Wave.
Golden and clear, this beer is right here. A nice white cap on this wave, a pour with potential. It has a malty aroma for a light. First taste is a nice easy middlin’ malt lager with a touch of sweet and a smooth finish. A bit fizzy at the start, it’s a classic light with a bit more flavour. One of those beers that tastes like a beer, it’s a lively light lager that tastes like a solid fridge stocking 5 per center.
Good beer from there, right here..
