I’ll Have an Apocalypse Now

Les Quatre Surfeurs de L’Apocalypso

Le Trou du Diable

6.5% Alcohol

Surfs up in Nam.

Me: Hey COMDB Translation Department, what does “Les Quatre Surfeurs de L’Apocalypso” translate to.

COMDB Translation Department: Cool, it’sThe four surfers of the apocalypse”.

Me: I don’t think that’s right. Surfers? Don’t you mean the four horsemen of the apocalypse like from the Bible.*

COMDB Translation Department: Haven’t you ever seen Apocalypse Now? “You either surf or fight. Is that clear?” **

They also told me that the brewer’s name, Le Trou du Diable, translated to The Devil’s Hole, which just happens to be a cave nearby their Shawinigan Québec location for all you speleologists out there. ***

As for a White IPA, I need to employ some cognitive dissonance here. The concept of a wheat IPA has me saying no thank you, but our White IPA ratings to date have actually been pretty good. ****

A hearty head, frothy and foamy and there from first quaff until last swig. Surfs up. Through the foam a tropical fruity hoppy aroma emanates. The first taste is sweet tropical fruit, with some hoppy piney bitters, all balanced and quite tasty. It has a light unaggressive body with a full mouthfeel, not quite creamy. It’s certainly easy drinking; the piney bitters start to settle down a bit beneath the surf.

Goin down faster than a kook riding a triple overhead. An epic great white, and we aren’t talking about a man in a grey suit. *****

*Editor’s Comment: The four horsemen of the apocalypse are mentioned in the Book of Revelations in the New Testament of the Bible.  Although the horsemen aren’t identified in the Bible they are usually personified as Conquest, War, Famine, and Death.

**Editor’s Comment: In the 1979 movie Apocalypse Now, Lieutenant Colonel Kilgore, played by Robert Duvall, orders a helicopter strike on a coastal village so his men can surf the waves.  The screenplay is roughly based on Joseph Conrad’s 1899 classic Heart of Darkness although there was no surfing in Conrad’s novella.

Lt. Colonel Kilgore:If I say it’s safe to surf this beach, Captain, then it’s safe to surf this beach! I mean, I’m not afraid to surf this place, I’ll surf this whole fucking place!”

***Editor’s Comment: Le Trou du Diable is a cave accessible to tourists located in Portneuf Regional Natural Park. I has just over 1 km of accessible underground area to explore. A speleologist is a person who studies or explores caves, a field known as speleology.

****Editor’s Comment: Out of the six White IPAs reviewed to date, 3 including Electric Unicorn, have obtained super suds status.

*****COMDB Translation Department: Surfer Lingo:  A Kook is a rookie surfer, a triple overhead is a wave three times as tall as the surfer, and a man in a grey suit is a shark.
