The wheelie pulling delivery guy on the can is in orbit and hauling ass (and pizza) around some unrecognizable pre- continental shift of a planet I assume is Earth. Although these days you never know what we’ll be calling the planet next. Enough political commentary, Counterpart has graced us with a pilsner of the Italian ilk. I did have pizza in Italy many years ago and let’s just say that Pizza Hut is authentic Pizza Hut and nothing but.
I do recall a memorable blog about a President’s Choice pizza of the frozen variety that they told us was “baked in a traditional wood-fired oven on volcanic stone for an exquisite lightly charred crust”. I think “exquisite” might have been a bit of an exaggeration, and the crust was more than just lightly charred by the time I was done with it. But it was quick and easy and went well with a beer which was all I was really hoping for.
I have sampled a few Italian pilsners in my day, with a range of scores imparted.* In the end it is the finish that decides where it ends up. Time to see if this Pizza Pils delivers the goods.
A clear golden amore pour, a bit of foam dusting the surface. Fresh light malt nose, very pilsner like in its presentation. The first taste is a malt sweet with a very crisp dry finish and bitters with a touch of the acidic aspirin aftertaste that I am not that fond of. But a large swig after a salty snack** and Bob’s your uncle, smooth finish. The salt seems to cut through that backend bitter big time. Warning, a big swig with no salty snack is a no go. I wonder how it would have paired with pizza?
