I don’t think anyone would mistake me for someone who is carb or calorie conscious and I wouldn’t know an electro-light from a red light, but that didn’t stop me from trying this Rally session lager with electrolytes. To be honest, my first thought was that an electrolyte was a Jeff Lynne* fan. Then I remembered that we had run into these before, and a quick search found another Rally electrolyte brew, this one blazing trails instead of wandering around in the back country.

I started to do some research on what electrolytes are but quickly lost interest after reading “An electrolyte is…..”. Apparently this beer is brewed with Vancouver Island Sea Salts, the salts from Vancouver Island being well known for their electrolytic characteristics. **

A bright glowing slightly hazy pour, some would say electrolytic in it’s presentation. A Pilsner like light malt aroma. First quaff yields very light apple and malt. Sometimes apple is an off-taste in beers but in this case it is a right on taste. A flat mouthfeel with a crisp clean finish.  As refreshing as an honest politician and as easy as our editor’s job.

I am not a big light beer fan but I really enjoyed this one. Crushable but at the same time you will want to savour it. A paradox or an oxymoron? Maybe both?*** Love me some electrolytes.

*Editor’s Comment: In 1970 Lynne founded the band Electric Light Orchestra.

**Editor’s Comment: You just made that up.

***Editor’s Comment: Paradoxes are oppositions of ideas or themes, while oxymorons are contradictions between two words only. The premise that your statement could be both, which I think it is, to me seems paradoxical.
