Emerald Stout! A stout from the Emerald Isle? Nope, a stout from the grocery store aisle. Right beside the Buble (not Bublé) and the Canada Dry, it’s another entrant into our COMDB zero percent experiment.
Against the good advice of Dr. Alex Speers * we are pouring another non-alcoholic beer, this one from our favourite art dealer union, Collective Arts. Not our first CA zero, their Hazy Pale Ale did not leave us at all hazy, and zeroes in general have not garnered any excitement whatsoever from the COM. Is this a bit of COM solidarity as JT is in the final throes of dry February? Nope. No sympathy for self inflicted wounds is what the old man used to tell me. JT will be playing a bit of catch up in March no doubt.
A zero-light entering or leaving kinda pour, with a classic tan topper. Looking good. A roasted malt with a bit of a smoky aroma, burnt offerings? The mouthfeel is very watery, definitely not a nitro hero zero. Watery roasted malt light taste, no sweet, no espresso, with a smoky bitter rather than smooth finish. Tastes a bit like a stout but watered down with an unattractive bitter ending. Not exactly a stout lover’s stout. Not a surprise, but when it comes to zeroes a surprise is what we are hoping for.
