The Fine Art of Zero

Hazy Pale Ale

Collective Arts Brewing

0.4% Alcohol

I’m a patron of the arts. Arts and crafts actually. Gazing at a velvet Elvis while quaffing a craft is both fine and refined in my books. But how is Collective Arts going to do in our 0% experiment? Taking a Collective Arts brew to zero seems to me like taking a classic work of art like Dogs Playing Poker * and turning it into Pokémon Playing Poker (the artwork on my Grandson’s wall).

We have run the gamut with CA. Their triple left us Fuzz Face,  their double was a monster but a good one. Their Peak to Peak was a 7% super suds, and their POG wasn’t far behind. We lighten things up with their Hazy State session IPA, but this is just about as low as you can go. Can this brew accelerate from zero to 15 in one glass?

Orange hazy but semi-transparent and headless. A light citrus aroma. The first taste is mild citrus fizz, no bitters or hoppyness whatsoever. A Fresca light. It has a watery weak mouthfeel and eventually shows very slight hoppy aftertaste. It is big swig refreshing and definitely crushable, but also definitely a near to zero booze brewski.

Very light, as one would expect, with occasional off tastes but in general one of the better zeroes sampled to date. Pokémon Playing Poker may not be a classic but it’s still entertaining.

*Editor’s Comment: Cassius Coolidge’s 1894 original oil on canvas of Dogs Playing Poker sold for $658,000 in 2015.
