You got it right; it’s a cephalopod fight. This GLB double, looks like double trouble.
It’s fight night at COMDB. And this one is no octopus’s garden, warm below the storm. * No sirree. This brew is the storm and these brothers in arms are up in arms. Great Lakes has taken their flagship Octopus Wants to Fight and bet double or nothing and it’s sounds like there’s a big fight brewing. And at 8% this GLB double is armed and dangerous.
After a double Deja brew review I was in the mood for a double of a different ilk, as in strong and satisfying. It was time for this brew to enter the ring and take on all takers. Of course I was the only taker foolish enough to tackle this pair of no love lost leviathans. Will a big swig quaffing be in the offing, or will it be sip to survive suds. Pouring and scoring.
And what a pour it is! Golden clear with a two finger surf’s up froth to blow off. Pretty as a picture. First whiff upon popping the top was like a Christmas tree farm, but once poured it was all juice. First taste was sweet fruit juice coupled with major pine bitters, 16 arms came out swinging and provided a hefty one two punch, intense but balanced. A bit of a boozy finish, mild but noted. Too strong to be a big swigger you say. Wrong I say! Although it weighs in at 8% it’s balanced enough to be a big swig double.
These two octopi may not see eye to eye but they do deliver a big time citrus tropical meets hop forward pine bitters double, while executing a balancing act that would make the Wallendas jealous. **
This brew came out swinging and hit the spot.
