Deja Brew Review Times Two, Just My Luck

Smooth Fortune

Blood Brothers Brewing

4.5% Alcohol

I’m a one and done guy, except for the COMDB AGM, during which I’m a many more than one and done in guy. But when it comes to brew reviews I’m also one and done. I’m not fond of Deja brew reviews but it does happen on occasion. When those maleficent marketing mavens rebrand a beer hoping us COMDB will buy it again to review it, that’s some type of violation of a sacred trust as far as I’m concerned. Deja brew once, shame on you, but Deja brew twice! Shame on our Editor, it certainly can’t be my fault. *

Why didn’t they call it Mighty Lucky?

It seems Blood Brothers have been playing the name game, but not just to fool some old fools. Some political tensions got their attention, and their Mighty Eagle American Lager (stars and stripes flying behind a haliaeetus leucocephalus) ** was rebranded as Mighty Lager, no longer American but now Premium. This time with a maple leaf behind the same said bald headed eagle.

Maybe the eagle was still too US of A for the blood brethren, so it was a stroke of luck that the next version of their lager was named Smooth Fortune.  They tell us and I quote “It’s a sure bet”.  If you liked Mighty Eagle and Mighty Lager then yea, I guess it’s a pretty sure bet you’ll like this one too.

Clear golden pour. Malt fruit sweet pilsner aroma. First quaff is malt fruit sweet with a crisp finish, very much a pilsner presentation. A big swig and the mild malt sweet is ever so easy drinking with that crisp finish.  As smooth as its name would imply. If I’m going to review a brew more than twice, hopefully it’s a good one.

*Editor’s Comment: Your lack of accountability must stem from your upbringing. Obviously your parents’ fault.

**Editor’s Comment: Haliaeetus leucocephalus, the scientific name for a bald eagle is of Greek origin and translates directly to "white-headed sea eagle".
