A double Dutch? Skip that. This isn’t a brew from those nether lands, but from Hamlet’s old stomping grounds. Let’s hope this one is a great Dane and not a princely tragedy. Time to do a Faxe check and see if we’ve reviewed any other Danish brews.
The brewer’s name, To Øl, is intriguing but elusive, sending me to the symbol bar to find this O slash character. Enter the COMDB Translation department stage right for their soliloquy. They ask me if I brought coffee to go with the Danish. In exchange for my insincere snicker, they tell me that To Øl means “two beers” in Danish. I’m a one and done guy usually but when the occasion calls for it, I will sample two beers, or in this case a double.
To Øl tell us this “mother of all DIPAs is dry hopped to the brim with Cascade Citra and Simcoe”. Weighing in at 8.7%, it’s not to be taken lightly.
A thick pulpy dark orange pour with a creamy white head. It looks substantial. A tropical juicy hoppy funk aroma, aromatic and charismatic. First taste is a full taste bud juice assault with tropical citrus slick juice going to a malt hop funk bitter combo. An almost creamy mouthfeel to it, the oats doing their job. It is nothing too extreme but definitely a double.
At the start the big-time hops were delivering some funk in the trunk, but it settled into a mellow creamy dreamy juicer. Because of the high handed ABV this one is strong, but despite the 8.7% it’s not boozy.
Looks like it is a great Dane, and this dog can hunt.
