Greetings from India

Kingfisher Premium Lager

United Breweries (Bangalore, India)

4.8% Alcohol

India is not a country normally associated with beer but during my visit there earlier this summer, I asked for the “local beer” , I was given a Kingfisher Lager and I was pleasantly surprised. Although the name goes back to 1857, the brand was reinvented by a jet setting Indian entrepreneur named Vijay Mallya.* Based on his success with beer he started Kingfisher Airline but it failed.**

I struggled to decide whether to give it a 14 or 15. It sure tasted good in the Indian heat, as long as its served cold.

*Editor's Comment: Vijay Vittal Mallya is an Indian businessman, former politician and fugitive. He is the subject of an extradition effort by the Indian Government to return him from the UK to face charges of financial crimes in India. Mallya is the ex-chairman of United Spirits, the largest spirits company in India, and continues to serve as chairman of United Breweries Group,

**Editor's Comment: I guess that business venture didn't fly.

Final Rating: On the Fence at 14.5 out of 20
