Springsteen had some trouble in the heartland, they were badlands for him. CSNY shared their hopes and dreams there. For good ol’ boy George Strait it was the only place he felt at home.*

Take a hike.
But Blackburn is taking us to a whole different heartland. Bullfrogs not prairie dogs. Moss and peat, not fields of wheat. As in a wetlands forest not a midwestern plain, the Heartland Forest located in the Niagara Falls region of Canada. The only buffalo around here are the Buffalo Bills and their mafia!
No forest green here, or even wheat field golden. This haze of the heartland is a muddy river light brown goin’ down, with an early winter field frost on top. A fruit malt funk aroma happening. The taste starts out full bodied tropical fruit with a mildly hoppy finish, a touch of dry bitters at the end and in the aftertaste. Nice. It could be its composition, or my disposition, that encourages big swigs. Fruit fades a bit in mid quaff but so do the bitters. The fruit makes a minor comeback near the end. It is an easy drinking balanced adult beverage.
This Heartland is heartfelt, not heartless, a solid and tasty pale ale.
