Hills Helles Has Us Bavaria Bound

Helles

Caledon Hills Brewing Co.

5% Alcohol

Oktoberfest is in the air, How I wish I could be there.

But since I’m stuck here, I think I’ll have a Helles beer.

I know what you’re thinking, why doesn’t he work for Hallmark? I often ask myself the same question. It just doesn’t make sense; there’s no rhyme or reason to it.

Caledon Hills promise us “a journey to Bavaria in every golden, frothy sip.”

Welcome to Bavaria!

You take the BMW, I’ll take the Audi. Fairy tale castles, picturesque medieval towns, snow covered Alps, pristine lakes, cowbell adorned heifers grazing in the clover meadows. The hills are alive with the sound of music. That music of course being an Oompa Pa band encouraging us to dance in lederhosen and raise a boot shaped glass as we celebrate Oktoberfest, Munich style.*  Don’t mind if I do. Let’s see what kind of rating this Bavaria bound brewski will Prost.

A true to their word golden and frothy pour, with a malt creamy aroma. And we’re off to Bavaria, with a malt body, and a touch of floral followed by bitters. All in that order and well balanced. It has a full mouthfeel. The floral fades, producing a grin and no chagrin.  The bitters a bit more pronounced now, enunciating. They step back now as the whole brew smooths out for good, and that’s good.

Hey JT, your favourite kind of beer, one that tastes like beer. Very good beer I might add.

*Editor’s Comment: Munich is the capital city of the German state of Bavaria. Home to BMW and Audi and the largest Oktoberfest in the world. The Bavarian Alps were the locale for the opening scene of the movie “The Sound of Music”.
