Another pint of pizza pilsner. Of course, just like you, my first assumption was that this is an Italian Pilsner. Once again as is often the case I find my first assumption to be incorrect. I think we are in the age of misinformation and the land of mass assumption. As for pizza, I’m sick of it. My grandkids would live on the stuff if they could and each week I’m breaking down and piling up all the cardboard pizza boxes for recycle.
And this pizza has anchovies! As far as I’m concerned I fully support the J.Geils Band’s position on the subject, “No Anchovies, Please”. * However it appears that the anchovy in question is not the small familiar forage fish from the family Engraulidae, but Anchovy hops. ** I know, it all sounds kind of fishy to me too.
Dominion City has teamed up with Willibald on this collab West Coast pils which is not an Italian pilsner from the Amalfi coast but a West Coast pilsner from our land locked Nation’s capital. ***
A clear bright golden effervescent first pour, no head or any other toppings. An aroma that is as super crisp as it is super clear, some fruit and hops. It starts out with the mild and lingering taste of fresh citrus and sweet fruit and hops. Seems like more of a pale ale then a pils. As it evolves the crisp finish starts to stand out and make a pilsner statement. A very slight bitters aftertaste to go with a traditional pils crisp finish, Very tasty, yes it passed the big swig test with flying colours. The second pour (my small pilsner glass was not able to handle a tall can) ended up hazy just like me.
A unique take on a classic pils that I really enjoyed. I’m usually quite adamant about holding the anchovies, but in this case I’ll happily make an exception.
