Janky Old Men Drinking Beer

Janky

Matron Fine Beers

What the hell kinda name is “janky”? I thought janky meant crappy, sketchy, and in general not very good. * I could see me possibly calling a beer that, by why would anyone name their beer that, especially a “Fine Beer” brewer like Matron? Sounds like they are long overdue for a COMDB beer naming party.

The initial pop produced a bit of a fizz and foam overflow but nothing that required an ECCC report. ** A muted golden orange pour with a bright white foamy dense header. It certainly has a juicy fresh tropical citrus aroma. The mouthfeel is definitely foamy and light, the taste is middlin’ citrus tropical with no real bitters or back bite. It’s somewhere between an IPA and a Session IPA. Light and easy drinking. A big swig does exhibit some mild bitters on the finish.

Matron tell us this beer pairs well with, and I quote, “not taking life too seriously”.  It seems to me that drinking beer in general pairs well with that, but they better get serious about what they name their next beer.

*Editor’s Comment: The Merriam- Webster Dictionary defines the word “janky” as “of very poor quality”.

**Editor’s Comment: Environment & Climate Change Canada administers the Canadian Environmental Protection Act.
