We enjoy and have sampled a lot of Muskoka Brewery brews, so I was slightly surprised, a tad shocked, a bit put back, and in general unaware that we had not sampled the Mad Tom version of the Juicy IPA known as Hazed & Confused.* Time to set things right.
Hockey Night in Canada and the lauded Leafs up against the snoozing Senators in what has been billed as the battle of Ontario. In the fall the leafs are colourful, while Senators are old and not very effective all year round. The stage is set, and the buds prevail in a game that was close but not that close, if you know what I mean.**
As you may have deduced by now, during the game I treated myself to a Juicy IPA of the Hazed & Confused variety. The Leafs won the day, can this Juicy IPA do the same?
This brew poured hazy bright orange particles in suspension with a white rind wisp of a head. A nice fresh juicy citrus fruit aroma, it smells hoppy and healthy. First swig is fruit forward with a middling bitter finish, stay tuned for the evolution. Very tasty fruit with a bitter, or is it a tart, body. Tart I think. MB describes it as a juicy citrus kick and I wouldn’t call them wrong. I also wouldn’t call this smooth, but I would call it fruity and refreshing with a tart slightly bitter finish. Update on the evolution, there was none. This brew was pretty consistent from first quaff to the last drop. Definitely a hot weather IPA lovers IPA. Despite his hazy condition and his confusion, once again Mad Tom delivers the goods. This time it’s a good juicy IPA.
