Farmer Steve is so cheap he’s free, so when he brings a case of Laker to the party that tells you something. The beer store calls it a ” value priced” beer. Waterloo Brewing, * the pour the boar brewers, are also the Laker maker, but keep the brands separate. What I can’t fathom, other than the Marianas trench, ** is why we, living in the land of lakes, haven’t reviewed Laker Lager yet. Well the wait is over. Time to see if we get what we paid for, or more.
A golden pour, much clearer than my conscience, with some carbonation feeding wispy head waters. Mild malt nose, not much else. Malt, touch of apple, and minimal fizz, a smooth flat finish. It’s a back to basics lager. It evolves slightly into a malt (but not malty) body with a bit of grain, a touch of sweet, and a slight crisp on the finish. A classic big brewer lager. No home run but a safe on first single. You could further the analogy, but I don’t need to drink four to score it.
This brew is designed as a weapon of mass consumption. A fridge stocker, a crowd pleaser. Not a one and done, more like one and just begun. Got my money’s worth, an OK pint.
