Get me to the Church on time!
Inspired by Farmer Steve’s recent Nova Scotia pilgrimage, I decided to check out my local church. A V-twin cruise through wine country and next thing you know I’m pulling into the Silversmith parking lot. Helmet in hand I go in and ask the friendly barkeep what’s new. As luck would have it, they had just canned a brand-new double IPA the day before, talk about fresh. Turns out it’s a celebratory craft, a toast to 13 years of brewing excellence. Hoppy anniversary Silversmith! I’ll drink to that, and I did.

You too can get a Lucky 13 if you play your cards right.
Although they named their anniversary brew Lucky 13, I expect their successful 13 years are more attributable to hard work and good beer. For us cranky old men hard work is just a bad memory of 45 years of sweat, toil and paying taxes out the ying-yang. But when it comes to good beer we’re at the front of the line.
A stellar presentation, some would say a lucky pour because I’m usually not that good. ** Hazy golden with a well-formed foam topper. Tropical fruit salad meets hop fields on the nose, smells super. First taste is a delicious citrus mango combo with grapefruit (or is it pine) bitters. Not a boozy backend like some doubles. As far as doubles go it’s an easy drinker, could be a daily double. Not overbearing, a bit of bitters emerge with the hoppy finish, all well balanced with the tasty juice body.
When it comes to this beer I am reminded of the immortal words of Magenta “You’re lucky, he’s lucky, I’m lucky, we’re all lucky!” ***
As I was finishing my beer a sobering thought came to mind, my Luck was about to run out.
