I couldn’t bowl my way out of a wet paper bag, but Fonger could make those pins beg for mercy. flirting with 300 with strikes to spare. Meanwhile I was doing the speed limit at 100, with a lane violation or two. In between the two of us is what you would call a mediocre bowler, which is what those Refined Fools are calling this Summer Beer League special. The SBL Kolsch earned a beer Olympic cold medal and their Physical Inactivity was right down my alley. Time to see if this Mediocre beer is in the same league and hopefully more than its name would suggest.
An OJ super hazy impenetrable pour, with a ten pin white head. A brisk hoppy aroma, fruit and zing anticipated. The first swig is stone fruit and hops perfectly balanced. A malt backbone in the background with a smooth, full mouthfeel. As it evolves the peachy fruit takes the lead as the hoppiness subsides leaving a slight bitter aftertaste. The hops continue to fade and what we end up with is a smooth juicer, almost tasting like a double at times, a bit of booze but no real backend bite. A sequence of strike to spare to split.
What started out as super ended up as honourable. A mediocre hazy IPA, aptly named.
