Motueka, I Presume
Ma took her pills? Did I hear that right? What kind of a name is Motueka anyway? Can you squeeze any more vowels in there, the “i” and the “y” are feeling left out (literally). * Looks like it’s time for a COMDB geography lesson. Motueka is a small town in the South Island of New Zealand on Tasman Bay.* That’s right, more kiwi hops in your suds, another Tasmanian devil-may-care** brew.
Silversmith has deemed this one of their Ecclesia Series of brews. Perhaps a translation is in order but when I ask, the COMDB translation department tell me they don’t do Latin. I say fair enough. Then they say “but this is Greek” and have a chuckle at my linguistic naivetes. This is what we have come to know as a translation department “joke”. Just one reason why we don’t invite them to the COMDB AGM. They tell me that Ecclesia comes from the Greek Ekklēsia which means “a gathering of those summoned”. ***
A bright, I’ve seen the light, pour. Golden to yellow, at times clear, at times hazy. An aroma of crisp, if such a thing is possible. A fresh light pilsner with some subtle floral bitters mixing with some unidentified fruit and a crisp finish. Tasty and refreshing. Crisp as a white starched collar. Not exactly a religious experience but this pils’ ministrations were greatly appreciated.
If Ecclesia is a gathering of those summoned to drink this beer, count me in.
