The fine folks at Lost Craft may still be searching for that missing boat of theirs, but that doesn’t seem to distract them from brewing some tasty brews. Their Caramilk Stout was a Christmas Eve eve super suds sampling recommended by none other than Bud, the Elf on the Beer Shelf. And their Divercity Helles lager was the talk of the town. Now we’re pouring their Old School Pilsner and hoping for another super suds.
“Old school”. A traditional brew, done with the care and attention to quality that was the hallmark of a by gone era. A steady learned hand on the tiller as opposed to a greedy young hand in the till. Pride in the product, old fashion of a fashion. Back in the day, done a better way. Math with a slide rule, don’t be the fool, play it cool. * An honourable era when we could spell words with a “u” and not have spell check red line our correct Canadian spelling. Will this old school pilsner live up to all this hype? One can hope.
A clear golden pour, the clarity confounded by the condensation on my chilled pils glass. Nice light malt aroma, 11 months of the year JT would say it smells like beer! ** It has a light malt lager sweet presence with a pils crisp ending. A slightly acerbic bitter aftertaste to remind you this lager is a Pilsner. It is light, clean, crisp and refreshing. An easy drinking, almost but not quite light pilsner. A dock side top of the boat house brew. As Vincent Damon Furnier *** would say, Old School is out for summer.
