Pedantic Editor: I wonder if otto-matopoeia refers to words that sound the same as their meaning in German? Sounds like it’s time to call in the COMDB Translation Department.
COMDB Translation Department: We don’t hear from you often. Don’t get us wrong, we’re not complaining. Onomatopoeia in German? How about “hatschu” for a sneeze. Of course, the polite response is another German word, “gesundheit” which means “health” in English. As for the name Otto, it has its origins in Old High German and means “wealth” or “prosperity”.
Pedantic Editor: Fascinating, I’ve really enjoyed our discourse. We’ll have to do this more often.
COMDB Translation Department: Whatever.

My Otto Graph
What could be more stressful for a COMDB beer reviewer than dealing with our pedantic pain in the ass Editor? How about dealing with the ill-tempered COMDB Translation Department and the pedantic Editor. Time to relax and put my feet up and try this Otto man.
A Northern Maverick black lager, will this be an Otto-matic super suds? I remember JT sampling this one at our COM site visit to NM but I can’t recall his verdict. Time to pour and score, a tasting will tell the tale.
A dark almost black pour with an ever so slim wisp of a head. Roasted malt and cocoa on the nose. The first taste is a roasted malt cocoa cola with a bit of a fizz. Somewhere in between light and full in both mouthfeel and taste. As the fizz otto-corrects this brew settles into a nice easy going dark lager. Middlin’ flavour malt cocoa, no real coffee, with a sweet lager finish. No bitters for the most part, but I couldn’t resist a big swig which revealed a bit of a backend bitterness. Fairly easy drinking for a dark lager, with a consistent and balanced taste once the fizz faded.
