Still younger than us cranky old men so who are we to judge.
But the fresh at hand and in hand is a Mascot Oktober Fresh, a Märzen, umlaut firmly ensconced. This one was canned on August 29th 2025 so definitely the freshest Fresh of the lot. Not our first Mascot Märzen, their Bruno Märzen was a cool customer.
Right out of the gate a beauty pour. Copper clear, and all rapped up with an off-white head. A malt toffee aroma with some graininess on the nose. The first taste is a watery toffee sweet lager with a slightly grainy finish and aftertaste. Not the caramel balanced amber genre I’ve come to love. The taste is consistent start to finish, no evolution. Oktober Fresh didn’t embark on an acting career once the hits stopped coming. ** A bit weak, a touch too sweet, and watery.
An OK quaff but if you want the best Mascot has to offer try their Pilly.
