Hoppy trails.
Now it’s time for a brew rhyme, How about an Uxbridge ale by the Oak Ridge trail,
Or test out your bike’s shocks, riding Three Rocks, It’s an Elgin Blonde by the Elgin pond,
A chill beer, summer’s here. If you get the chance tour Leaksdale Manse, with a nod to Lucy Maud,
Let’s salute Colonel Sam, You know I am.
And the last stop on our tour, is the local brewer. *
I find being by the water provides me an opportunity for self-reflection. But this Second Wedge tribute to local landmark Elgin Pond didn’t have me navel gazing, only looking forward to another TSW super suds special.
A golden ale, bright and semi-clear with a light white head. A picture perfect pondside pour. Full malt aroma. The first taste is a full almost creamy mouthfeel. It’s bready malt to lager sweet with a very subtle crisp finish and a dry aftertaste. The pilsner malt is making its presence known. As it evolves the malt stays, as the sweet mellows, with a dry finish in play. Nice sequence and well balanced.
No offense to Colonel Sam Sharpe or Lucy Maud Montgomery or Governor General Elgin, or Uxbridge’s great trail mix, but my favourite stop on our rhyming tour was the local brewer.

Cheers to Cranky Old Men! Those rhymes really flow from your pen. We appreciate your shoutout to Elgin Blonde and to so many great features of our small town. Hope to see you here again soon!
