Saddle on up to the Klondike Bar

Klondike Clarke

Longslice Brewery

5.2% Alcohol

Plan A is still intact, the Leafs won last night so they have a chance. Their chances are slim and none and Slim is packing his bags and bought a bus ticket but he hasn’t left town yet. And we all know, where there’s beer, there’s hope. Plan B is holding together nicely with the Oilers winning too. Plan C…. not so much.*

This Klondike Bar serves Minors.

How about this brew, a Klondike Clarke. Their reference to the Klondike is the one of Yukon goldrush and Jack London** fame. But Klondike Clarke could also be a reference to Henry Clarke who turned the Klondike Ice Cream bar from a regional treat into a household name.*** I have visited a few Klondike bars back in the day, in the Yukon and Alaska, but they were serving miners, not minors.

Longslice has their own take on the Klondike, and Platinum J is singing about it on YouTube.

A goldrush golden clear pour, with a snow white Chilkoot Pass frosting of a head. A fresh malt aroma, a good solid lager like whiff on the old sniffer.  As advertised, a malt body with a crisp finish, a classic lagered ale. A nice malt crisp sequence, balanced and works well. A crisp but smooth finish. An exclusive malt and crisp only club. no hops or bitters allowed. A pilsner like presentation and performance.

Whether your golf game involves a long slice or a short hook (I haven’t experienced any other type of drive) you can celebrate with this brew. A good basic refreshing malt based ale that could be considered a fridge stocker, appealing to the masses in a good way.

*Editor’s Comment: The Blue Jays lost last night and have been struggling a bit as of late.

**Editor’s Comment: At the age of 17 John Griffith Chaney, better known as Jack London, left his California home and headed to the Yukon to join the Klondike goldrush in 1897. His experiences formed the basis for a number of his novels, “Klondike Stories” and “Call of the Wild” being the most notable.

***Editor’s Comment: When Clarke bought the Klondike Bar rights the ice cream bar had $600,000 a year in sales. Aggressive ad campaigns (What would you do for a Klondike Bar?) and National distribution increased sales to $60 Million a year.
