Debbie Harry and Meatloaf swillin’ and chillin’
It looks like Shawn & Ed, the ampersand completes the brand, have ditched the thermos bottle and are back in black with a can full of dark lager. A simple understated and I must admit, sharp looking can of beer. A debutante at the black and white ball, a pretty baby. Let’s dance.
Picture this, a dark pour that pours dark dark brown but looks as black as my heart of glass. A slim tan head quickly fades away and radiates above the darkness. A great full roasted burnt malt aroma, did I smell a stout? The taste is the familiar roasted malt, lots of flavour here, almost burnt with a touch of coffee to add a very subtle harsh bite but well balanced with a fair bit of lager sweet in there too. Stout like for sure. A very approachable dark mainly due to the sweet that mellows any roast harshness. Like a mild chocolate stout, its sweet and easy. Unlike a stout, best to keep it cold, as it warms the sweet takes over.
