Freudian Sip

Muddy York Brewing Co.

5% Alcohol

The Freudian slip you’ve been dreaming of.

When I first heard the term Freudian Slip it didn’t surprise me at all that old Sigmund was a cross dresser. * I guess it was a big deal back then but nothing to get your panties in a twist over these days. I imagine in private he wouldn’t skirt the situation but a-dress it accordingly, deal with his far and nigh-longings so to speak.

But we aren’t here to talk about Freud’s proclivities, or his danties. The fine femmes and fellows at Muddy York have been thinking about drinking and have come up with a Freudian Sip. ** A thought-provoking name to recognize Sigmund’s old stomping grounds, Vienna. When it comes to your REM sleep there may be a fine line between a dream and a nightmare, but we find it far easier to make that distinction when it comes to quaffing a frosty cold one. Time for some free-association, let the brew-analysis begin. ***

A dark copper caramel coloured dream of a pour, with a tempered white head shrinking quickly. Definitely a toffee nose, triggering my Id, thereby seeking immediate gratification via a first swig. The taste is caramel smooth sweet, with a light watery mouthfeel and a very smooth finish. Bitterness repressed, and hoppiness in denial, just a slight fizz on the finish. Big swig, little sip, standard quaff, are all the same, it’s a model of consistency. A very tasty toasty malt caramel treat, just what Muddy York had in mind.

I moved from my lazy boy to the couch for this review and it didn’t take any awkward questions from Sigmund Freud about my dreams to determine that my adult beverage desires were fulfilled.

*Editor’s Comment: Once again our Reviewer is in over his head, which is no surprise when it comes to the subject of Sigmund Freud and psychoanalysis. A Freudian slip is not an undergarment, but an unintentional error driven by, and revealing, your subconscious feelings.

**Editor’s Comment: The beer name is a clever example of a Freudian slip on its own, although when it comes to the Cranky Old Men, thinking about drinking is definitely not a subconscious feeling.

***Editor’s Comment: With our reviewer’s beer reviews, the term psycho analysis is appropriate.

***Reviewer’s Comment: In the dictionary, our Editor’s picture is beside the word Superego.

***Editor’s Comment: Since the definition of Freudian “Superego” is “the mind’s moral conscience and internalized societal rules”, I am in fact the self-critical conscience of this website. It doesn’t happen often but in this case our Reviewer is correct.
