After an enjoyable tour of Newfoundland via St.John’s, I’m back out East with a small batch catch from the less possessive St.John, in Canada’s only officially bilingual province!* Une biere s’il vous plait. Viva la difference. No frequent flyer miles this time, it’s an armchair excursion.Moosehead tell us that “the best tasting beer is the one you’ve earned.” Not sure about the “earned” part. What if I yearned for it, does that count?
Moosehead’s fiercely independent and proudly Canadian brewery is cranking out their new Small Batch series with some interesting varieties in store for us (pun intended, as always). So, I scored and poured their East Coast IPA, then scored the pour.
A sunrise in the East golden pour with a coastal breakers white bright foam to top it off. A solid hazer. The aroma is citrus juice with a bit of hops and a touch of funk. The taste is juicy smooth, not at all hoppy or bitter. It has a mild crisp finish with a slightly dry bitter aftertaste.
It’s a nice basic juicy IPA. A traditional New Englander, this East Coaster is a West Coast juicer sans pine bitters. It’s balanced, juicy and mild. An ideal intro IPA for the uninitiated to the genre.
