You would think opening a brewery in a building right beside a Catholic high school and an Elementary school might be of some concern for parents. A protest, some PTA lobbying, political pressure, a field day for the press, fueled by a public outcry, perhaps? Nope, not if the former business in that building was a strip joint. Parents must have breathed a collective sigh of relief to see the former Gentlemen’s VIP Lounge ”Solid Gold” gone, and the reputable local brewer Stack setting up shop. Employees working fully clothed I assume. I imagine a few modifications to the premises were required. When I stopped by (the brewery, not the strip joint) there were no stages or poles, just vats and stacks of Stack’s beer.  The whole situation brings to mind North Bay’s Dysfunctional Mall.

For those of you who aren’t rock doctors, a shatter cone is not a new item on the menu at Dairy Queen. They are geological formations created by meteorite impacts. Since Sudbury is home of one of the largest meteorite impact sites in the world (250 kilometers wide by 130 kilometers long), any self-respecting geologist would expect to see a few shatter cones in or around the Nickel City.

As for this brew, it pours a solid gold body for VIP gentlemen, with a white halo head for the innocent school kids next door. It has a juicy fruity citrus aroma, all juice, no zing or hops on, in or around the general vicinity of the nose. The taste is citrus juice with grapefruit bitters, any vitamin C deficiencies are now history. As I progress the juice fades a bit and the bitters get more pronounced. About halfway through it is balanced, but both ends of the spectrum are good to go. A solid golden IPA that stacks up well.
