Summertime Suds For Sure

Golden Beach

Sawdust City Brewing

4.5% Alcohol

Summertime*, and the livin’ is easy, and this Golden Beach pale ale from Sawdust City is all about summertime. They say they “have tried their darndest to put the best of summer into each can.” Well gosh darn I hope it tastes as good as they say.

It pours as yellow as the summertime lemonade from that rickety stand those pesky neighbour kids put up. Yellow and hazy, the pour is summery, no doubt about that. It has a hoppy aroma, that’s it, that’s all, a regular hopfest on the nose. Wake up and smell the hops. It is no surprise that the first swig is hoppy as a kangaroo fight. A bit of fizz to crisp the hoppy finish. The fizz folds and leaves me holding a handful of hops.  This can maybe (is) a shortie but there is no shortage of hops on board.  I think there is a bit of fruit in there somewhere, in the midst of a hoppy zing and crisp.

Refreshing, I enjoyed it. Hoppy and happy. Hot day summertime suds for sure. Did I mention it was hoppy?

*Editor’s Comment: The song “Summertime” composed by George Gerswhin for “Porgy and Bess”, is one of the most recorded songs in history. Ella Fitzgerald and Louis Armstrong sang the classic version but perhaps the most famous cover of the song was by Janis Joplin.
