Date night! Out on the town. All dressed up in long sleeves and my best cardigan. Quarter chicken dinner and splurge on the white meat you ask? Nope, we are going uptown downtown, it’s fancy pants tonight. Cashed an RRSP and out to the Fat Rabbit, an award winning restaurant.* Time to check out the not so lean cuisine and quaff a craft, with the missus permission of course.

No rabbit on the menu, in case you were wondering.
First thing I noticed (apart from the pricing) was the very interesting craft beer menu. Along with the usual suspects they had Willibalds, Dominion City, and our feature brew, an amber ale from Slake. I have an affection for Picton breweries, they always bring back those way back in the day teenage Sandbanks memories. And I love me an amber. Some decisions are easier than others.
Can and glass to the table and my arm is just long enough to pat myself on the back for an excellent pour. An amber reddish pour, not as dark as the pic might lead one to believe. Very mild malt aroma, smells lager sweet? First taste is a light caramel and sweet main, with a very mild ale bite on the finish, nice. A watery mouthfeel, almost an amber light, certainly easy drinking. Well balanced, light and just right. The caramel bready notes went well with the sourdough bread starter. All in all a satisfying brew to go with a satiating meal.
Fat Rabbit is well deserving of all the accolades. Excellent beef, great service and a great meal to go with the great company. Not cheap like me, but the missus is worth it.
