The Monger, Pig wrangler extrodinaire.
To quote the immortal writings of E.B.White in reference to her famous porcine provacteur, “That’s some pig”.* After saying that I’m not sure what the pig on the can or the beer monging bacon bronco buster at the porker rodeo have to do with this beer. Kame & Kettle tell us that this beer’s “namesake is begettin’”. To beget something usually means to crank out a few rugrats, mini money pits that become major savings sucks.** Most likely in this case it means the brewmaster creating his baby, a righteous and raucous red.
And a dark and righteous red it is, with an equally righteous white halo of a head, well proportioned and positioned. A malt caramel aroma with a touch of metallic to add to it’s animal magnetism.
The taste is malt bread caramel with some ale bitters at the end. A bit of a dry bitter finish, all in balance. Yes, that is some pig. As it evolves it smooths out with bitters gone but a slight dry finish remaining. Now the finish is getting dryer bordering on acerbic! Back to smooth, might have been a bad nut in there, the cashews are fairly safe but never trust a filbert.
An old school full of flavour red, with a bit of a crisp finish to remind us it is an ale after all. This porcine pint joins the other K&K super suds status brews.
