For those of you who think the South Channel is a TV station that features Nascar, Jeff Foxworthy, and Trisha Yearwood’s cooking show, you stand corrected. This South Channel refers to a body of water in Georgian Bay near Parry Sound, not coincidentally home to Trestle Brewing. It also happens to be the name of a certain hazy pale ale I found in my glass last night.
The prose on this beer can could generate tears of joy from our editor. Here’s a sample “ It tastes like sunshine spilling out from behind the clouds of a dappled sky on a hot summer day”* Wow, I need my hip waders to stroll through that. Can any beer live up to that idyllic intro? Or will we need to change the channel?
A nice golden haze, with a near perfect white head and pour if I do say so myself, and I just did. A light tropical fruit aroma with no hops in the mix. First swig was mild fruit with fizz and crisp and a touch of bitter, a refreshing first impression, and we’re off to the races. The fizz faded, the fruit stayed the course, and the bitter abated a bit. I’m usually not a fizz fan but this fizz fit just fine. A nice steady balanced refreshing pale ale,
