Not too often you see a Q without a U.* QBrew is not a scrabble approved play, but it is a new brew from Mill Street. According to them, “the only regret we have is that we spent too much time as misguided youth drinking sub-standard ales”. If that’s their only regret, they are far better off than any of the COM in the regret department.
As far as sub-standard ales go, Mill Street was purchased by Labatt in 2015. That would be the very same Labatt that brews Labatt 50 which I would hazard to guess would be one of the sub-standard ales that the Mill Street gang drank in their youth, the chief proponent of their only regret. Irony or karma, take your pick.
Us COM have wandered down Mill Street more than a few times and seldom lost our way, so I was looking forward to sampling their new QBrew too. This Q107 Kölsch (or is it Kolsch) is a rock and roll (or is it rock & roll) partnership with the radio station Q107.** I fancy a little rock and roll every now and then, more now than then I think. I also fancy a frosty cold brewski every now and then, more now than then as well. So time to spin some vinyl and pop a top.
This copper coloured Kolsch cascades aimlessly into my glass and emanates a light golden glow. A nice fresh lager malt aroma through the thin but ever present foam frosting. The first taste was malt with a touch of apple and a crisp mild bitter finish. Nice. Next swig (pre-big swig) was that nice fresh malt taste with a dry crisp finish. Good news, it passed the big swig test too.
A Q no U quality quaff of a Kolsch that quickly quenched my craft brew craving. No regrets noted.
