In school we all contributed equally to the grocery bill, with one exception. When it came to Peanut Butter apparently my consumption far outweighed my contribution * so for me it was BYOPB. Even today my go to comfort food is a peanut butter and grape jelly sandwich. And I’m a card carrying member of the curious club and a big fan of the Something in the Water gang as well. They have had some super suds all stars grace our pages in the past. But a peanut butter and grape jelly milkshake beer seems to be maybe a touch too curious?
And did the SITW marketing team realize that public and high school kids can’t take this beer to school, due to its peanut butter content, eliminating a key market demographic. **
All of this postulating and ruminating are just words on the page, it’s time for a PB&J pour and score.
A reddish purple grape jelly shade of beer, with a dense white bread head. An aroma of peanut butter and grape jelly, why am I not surprised. The taste is peanut butter and jelly, it’s creamy mouthfeel and jelly grape sweet with a dry finish and some aftertaste bitters. It maintains a nutty body with a sweet dry finish as the bitters fade. Part way through a wave of super sweet vanilla starts to show up. It seems like vanilla is late to the party and is playing catchup. I really tried to like this one but it’s all a bit overwhelming and unbalanced with flavours that are not as complementary in a beer as they are on a sandwich.
It is what it says it is, and it tastes like it says it does, and it just doesn’t work for me. I’m a big PB&J fan, but on my bread not in my beer. If I gave out points for creativity this one would get a few, but when it comes to taste this brew will find points hard to come by. Too curious for me.
