Venturing into the Unknown

Parts Unknown

Dominion City & Great Lakes Brewery

6.5% Alcohol

Rumsfeld doing some Hoodoo Voodoo.

According to Donald Rumsfeld * “as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don’t know we don’t know.” As far as parts unknown goes, like most career politicians, Rumsfeld had no comment.

Parts Unknown? Could Dominion City be referring to travel to some exotic destination? Or a creative hairdresser? Or are they just unaware of the ingredients in this IPA.  Either way there is a mystery to be solved, and the COM are just the men to crack this case.

Our first observation is a thick hazy orange pour, with a bright froth a top, that we know. A juicy citrus tropical hoppy aroma appears evident. First taste presents a nice not over the top hoppy tropical juicer with some grapefruit bitters, a nice combo and sequence, truth be known. It has a nice soft mouthfeel to it as well.

Let’s put together the parts we know. Balanced, nice sequence, and a tasty tropical hoppy bitter combo. Sounds like it all adds up to a super suds IPA.

What is well known is that Dominion brews some tasty brews, and now we know that this is one of them.

*Editor’s Comment: In 2002 Donald Rumsfeld, US Secretary of Defense, gave his famous, or infamous, known-unknown speech. It was in response to a question about the lack of evidence linking the government of Iraq with the supply of weapons of mass destruction to terrorist groups. The known-unknown concept he presented pre-dates Rumsfeld and was originally proposed by Luff and Ingham in 1955, two American psychologists who called it the Johari window.
