Flying High

Two Flags IPA

Dominion City Brewing Co.

7% Alcohol

I’m flying two flags this evening and at 7% I may be flying high. From a periodic to a patriotic pint right from the Nation’s capital. Or is that capitol? And should it be capitalized? Or is that capitalised? * Politics can certainly be confusing.

I thought this was an appropriate brew considering the brouhaha over our favourite neighbour to the South talking about us joining them to form the US of Eh. As far as that goes, I would like to see two flags continue to fly side by each, best of neighbours.

Ottawa brewer Dominion City is brewing this one with hops from Chapeau, Quebec, just a hops, step and jump up the river.**  It pours golden slightly hazy with a great white north head on full display. A magazine worthy pour. No better than that. A brewer’s website pour!

I smell juice, I smell hops, I think I even smell some malt funk. My sniffer is in high gear tonight! The taste yields a soft mouthfeel, nice full fruit with some sharp backend bitters slicing the fruit up a bit. Those bitters hang around too, like an unpaid bill. It evolves as the juice, malt funk and hoppy bitters are all showing up and showing off. It does have a sharp bitter finish which works well with the other full fruit flavours. This is a great IPA.

When it comes to Dominion’s Two Flags, just like Canada,  I’m happy to be flying their flag.

*Editor’s Comment: The correct expression and capitalization (or lack thereof) is “Ottawa, the nation’s capital.” However, Ottawa also houses the nation’s capitol, which is the building in which the legislative government meets.

**Editor’s Comment: Chapeau PQ is about a 1.5 hour drive North West from Ottawa, following the Ottawa river.
