Talk about some serious frequent flyer miles, Voyager 1 has travelled 16 billion of them. An upgrade may be possible? Voyager 2 is also in the multi billion-mile club with 13.3 billion miles to date. As for this Voyager from Renaissance Brewing, it’s playing a bit of catch up with its NASA cousins, but it’s logged a not unimpressive 8940 miles to get from Christchurch New Zealand to my Great White North basement beer fridge.
But this Voyager isn’t exactly rocket science, it’s a much more down-to-earth British style IPA. A deep golden semi-clear pour supports a not thick, but dense, foam head. It has a mild malt tropical fruit nose. First taste is malt, citrus fruit, fizz, and subtle pine bitters all at once, busy but balanced. I think it’s the superb balancing act that makes for this flavourful froth blow off to be a big swigger, which it is. Definitely sessionable. A touch of fruit sweet shows up with the citrus and the rest of the co-stars in this stellar ensemble cast. Start to finish, a great IPA.
The dense froth, not high but heavy, stays the course and is still there at the not so bitter end. In fact the only thing bitter about the ending is that I don’t have another one of these delicious IPAs in my beer fridge.
