A Wizened Old Wizard

Album covers used to have some great artwork back in the day. An album cover* was 1 foot square and there was some room to ruminate. Today it seems like there is more artwork on beer cans than in the local museum. Looks like this Nickel Brook beer can wizard is no wizard wolf, but very much a cranky old man wizard weaving some winter magic for us.

A limited release in 2020, this magical IPA has some staying power. They tell us it is a mix of west coast and east coast styles.

This brew pours a thick hazy magical mango orange, with a bright white blizzard coming in from the North.  A hoppy aroma with some juicy in the background. It starts off with pine hops upfront with a juicy tropical body and a smooth finish. An interesting and enjoyable sequence of events. As I worked my way down the brew the hoppiness settled down a bit and began to merge with the smooth juicy fruit.  Now the hops have backed off to let the fruit take over. This wizard is working his magic.

I enjoyed this east/west magical IPA journey. “Me and my magic man kinda feeling fine.”**

*Editor’s Comment: Uriah Heep’s “Demons and Wizards” (background of this pint pic) was a 1972 release which was available not only on vinyl but on cassette and 8-track as well. By 1982 cassettes had replaced 8-tracks and that same year CDs went mainstream. By 1988 CD sales had surpassed vinyl and by 1991 had overtaken cassette sales as well.

**Editor’s Comment: Lyrics from the song “The Wizard” by Uriah Heep from their 1972 Album “Demons and Wizards”.
