After a fancy pants ice cream Neapolitan chocolate strawberry vanilla stout it was good to quaff a back to basics big bay barley sandwich. Georgian Bay that is, which from grade 5 geography we all learned is the backpack of the mighty Huron hiker, Lake Huron. Although a down to earth and down home lager, they spout some verbose verse on the can about beauty, peace and great beer.
It turns out that Midland Beer Works* is part of the Hockley Brewing Co, so it looks like another Hockley Night in Canada. Tonight it’s my Leafs at odds with the curmudgeonly Canucks in an East West showdown. It was a forgone conclusion that my Leafs would prevail since it is of course the Canucks they were playing against. The Leaf win was also fortuitous timing since I am going to be talking hockey later this week with Jerrod the Vancouverite. Fuel for the fire so to speak.
A nice clear golden Georgian Bay sunset pour, with a few clouds of foam on the horizon. A fresh slightly grainy aroma, traditional lager fare. A nice middling malt flavour with a smooth finish with a touch of sweet, grain on the nose but not in the quaff. Big swigs, small sips, it all works with this brew. Refreshing ice cold, which is exactly how they instruct us to serve it. A touch of graininess showed up near the end, due to goblet warming perhaps? No tears, no tissue, no issue.
A solid flavourful and very enjoyable back to basics by the big bay brew.
