Richard Gere had Julia Roberts after midnight on the grand,* tickling the ivories so to speak. The folks at Grand River Brewing** tell us that this Schwarzbier is just like midnight on the Grand (the river not the piano). With blue herons, and ducks and star gazing. They failed to mention the mosquitoes.*** Regardless of what’s on the water or in the air it certainly sounds serene, sublime, surreal and sumptuous.
On this website we have had midnight making out with the cow, midnight smooth and sweet, midnight skinny dipping and midnight for breakfast. The schwarz has been with us. Let’s see how this brew fits into the grand scheme of things.
Pours black as night, with a few bubbles floating down the river towards Elora. A rrrroasted malt barley arrrroma. Stoutlike, stoutly and stoutsville. It quaffs a watery mouthfeel roasted malt coffee with a sweet disposition of cocoa and vanilla. Definitely a light lager mouthfeel with a milk stout flavour. Quite tasty, sweet but not too sweet. Very easy drinking. A stout like lager or a lager like stout, take your pick. They both work, the schwarz is definitely with this brew. A sweet lager treat.
We have sampled a number of dark lagers, but never have we had one so grand.
