Is this a diamond of a cherry baby, maybe? Or should we runaway from this cherry bomb? We could join Ryan and move into a house on Cherry Lane where we can pick all the cherries we want. * Wouldn’t life be a bowl full of them then. Knowing my luck, I’d end up with the pits and stems.
Shawn & Ed have graced our brew reviews with their original lager and their black lager. Now we pore and score Shawn & Ed’s fav seasonal brew, a cherry lager, with a stroll down Cherry Lane where they picked a peck.
I must admit, I do like a nice firm cherry, and a just out of the oven cherry pie with vanilla ice cream is to live for. When it comes to cherry beer, well we have had some hits and a few misses. MacLean’s Cherry Porter was a hit, while Mill Street’s Chocolate Cherry Stout was very cherry. And The Society of Beer Drinking Ladies, a Sister organizations to COMDB,** offered up their Cherry Dark Lager to both men and women as well as the 72 other genders. ***
This brew pours very much a traditional lager golden semi-clear. Any red tinge in the beer pic is a combination of the background and your imagination. Speaking of imagination, the aroma is malt and did I detect a subtle whiff of cherry, or am I imagineering? Not exactly a subtle first swig, definitely some very cherry as opposed to barely cherry. Malt lager sweet classic with cherry, the cherry varies from barely to very. It is different, but it is balanced, the cherry isn’t subtle but not overbearing either.
An interesting departure from the everyday but I wouldn’t want it everyday. I’m glad I tried it but probably wouldn’t order it again.
*Editor’s Comment: Neil Diamond’s 1966 hit Cherry Cherry has the grammatically incorrect chorus “Cherry, baby (she got the way to move me). The Runaways 1976 breakout hit had a provocative 16 year old lead singer Cherrie Currie singing “I’m your ch-ch-ch-cherry bomb, Hello world I’m your wild girl.” Ryan Adams recorded the song Cherry Lane in 2005, “Well we move into a house down on Cherry Lane, And watch the world go by.”
**Editor’s Comment: I highly doubt that The Society of Beer Drinking Ladies would consider being related to COMDB in any way, shape or form.
***Editor’s Comment: MedicineNet identifies 72 genders in addition to male and female. The ultimate gender identity is “Omnigender” that being someone experiencing or having all genders!
Editor’s Comment: I am shocked that there wasn’t a single reference to Don Cherry in this review!
